The One Ocean Experience is an inspiring program designed to connect young minds with the wonders of the marine world. This immersive experience takes students out to sea, offering hands-on opportunities to explore and monitor marine biodiversity in various protected areas.
Guided by biologists and experts, participants engage in detailed biodiversity briefings, learn data collection techniques, and understand coastal monitoring objectives. Through these enriching activities, the One Ocean Experience aims to foster a deep appreciation for marine conservation and empower the next generation of ocean stewards.
The activities can be organized according to the needs of the school and classes. Previous initiatives took place in the Portofino Marine Protected Area, particularly in the bay of Niasca. Here, students, divided into groups, have the opportunity to monitor marine biodiversity both by snorkeling and kayaking along the coast. Using citizen science data sheets, the students actively contributed to data collection by reporting species observed both on the surface and underwater, thus supporting the conservation efforts of the Portofino Marine Protected Area.
