From October 24 to 27, 2024, One Ocean Foundation took part in the Genoa Science Festival with the interactive workshop Underwater Forests: The Secret World of Posidonia Oceanica, held at the Edmondo De Amicis Library in Porto Antico. This hands-on workshop engaged over 400 children aged 4 to 7 in discovering marine ecosystems essential to Mediterranean biodiversity and health.
Through practical activities, young participants explored the role of Posidonia oceanica, genuine "underwater forests" that produce oxygen, provide shelter for countless marine species, and help combat climate change by absorbing carbon dioxide. However, due to pollution and other human activities, these underwater forests are now at risk. The workshop, organized by One Ocean Foundation in collaboration with the DISTAV at the University of Genoa, gave young learners the tools to become "junior marine scientists" and understand how to protect this precious habitat.
