One Ocean Foundation is glad to share the first industry review developed in the framework of the Ocean Disclosure Initiative (ODI) project.
ODI, developed in partnership with SDA Bocconi, McKinsey&Company and CSIC (Consejo Superior de Investigaciones Científicas), has the ambition to be a science-based framework and methodology aimed at supporting businesses from all industries in taking action on ocean-related issues, promoting prevention and/or mitigation responses and favoring disclosure and reporting.
The review focuses on the analysis of the direct and indirect pressures exerted on the ocean by one of the most impactful sectors considered within our research: the oil and gas industry.
At present, oil and gas represent the most important sources for electricity production, providing over 60% of the total global supply, but their production and transportation also contribute to severe negative effects on the marine environment, especially with regards to seafloor integrity and seawater contamination.
