On August 28 during the Coppa Primavela FIV regatta in Salerno, marine biologist Benedetta Villa took part in the conference on sustainability and circular economy, introducing about 100 young sailors between the ages of 9 and 17 to the issues of marine pollution.
Benedetta explained, in a simple but scientific way, how increasing pollution from macroplastics and microplastics has deleterious consequences on marine ecosystems. The biologist also emphasized how plastic pollution poses a serious health risk to humans who, being at the top of the food chain, are exposed to the bioaccumulation of plastics and chemicals that increase in concentration as they move up the trophic chain. One of the 3 pillars of One Ocean Foundation is to educate and raise awareness, especially the younger generation, to protect the ocean.
A special thanks to the Italian Sailing Federation for hosting us and supporting the projects we are developing together as Sustainability Partners.
