On May 30th One Ocean Foundation has presented the second edition of the One Ocean Week Milano in the halls of Palazzo Reale, 5 days of events that will be held from June 8, World Oceans Day, until June 12 in the city of Milan.
The event is under the patronage of the Municipality of Milan, the Lombardy Region and the Italian Navy, and with the institutional collaboration of the Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission of UNESCO and numerous other partners. The One Ocean Week Milano will be a special week of events, meetings and educational workshops with the aim of promoting knowledge on issues related to the value of the marine ecosystems. Two of the main topics will be blue economy and the water cycle, in order to make the city of Milan an increasing leader in sustainability, through the creation of a platform of ideas and concrete projects on the topic of Water Scarcity, Water Management and Water Footprint, which are and will be at the centre of international attention in the coming years.
A project that intends to become an international reference, widespread and open to the entire city, which will explore the need to deal with the "Water System" through three high-profile macro-events organised in symbolic places for the city: a Summit on the Blue Economy, which will be held in the prestigious Bocconi University with the participation of the most eminent experts from all over the world; an in-depth study of the water cycle at the Museum of Science and Technology and an artistic performance on the fundamental role of the sea for humankind that will take place at the Bagni Misteriosi of the Franco Parenti theatre.
08.06.23 – Aula Magna Bocconi University
On World Oceans Day, One Ocean Foundation will present the Blue Economy Summit, an event that connects international leaders and experts from the scientific, institutional, entrepreneurial and financial sectors. Scheduled for June 8 at the Aula Magna of the Bocconi University in Milan, it represents an important opportunity to discuss the current state of the ocean and the urgency of developing a truly sustainable blue economy with innovative solutions and new opportunities that shift attention to the importance of "Prevention".
Presented by Terry Garcia, President of the National Geographic Society for years, the summit will welcome internationally renowned speakers, starting with a rich panel of Italian managers, Marco Tronchetti Provera, Andrea Illy, Marco Alverà, Mirella Vitale, Giovanna Vitelli, Barbara Cimmino, Elisa Zambito Marsala. Authoritative voices that will offer a valuable perspective on the links between the private sector and the sustainability of the ocean.
In order to create an unprecedented and very high calibre pool of professionals in sustainability, ocean and economy, other important international guests will participate, such as Carlos Duarte and Ralph Chami, world-renowned experts on marine ecosystems and economic development, Sylvia Earle, connecting from the United States, iconic oceanographer, also known as "Her Deepness", Torsten Thiele, an expert in Sustainable Blue Finance and Ocean Governance, founder of the Global Ocean Trust, Ted Janulis, founder of Investable Oceans, Kilaparti Ramakrishna, one of the greatest environmental policy experts in the world, Dawa Steven Sherpa, CEO of Asian Trekking, committed for years to environmental protection, and Ms Kitlang Kabua, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade of the Republic of the Marshall Islands, who will bring her experience in tackling climate change.
The scientific contribution is provided by the Sustainability Lab of SDA Bocconi and by McKinsey & Company. In particular, Prof. Stefano Pogutz of SDA Bocconi and Federico Fumagalli, Partner of McKinsey, will present the latest research conducted for One Ocean Foundation.
11.06.23 - National Museum of Science and Technology - Leonardo Da Vinci
A talk with scientists, biologists and activists to explore the importance of water and raise awareness on the need to protect it as a precious and essential asset for life.
Sector experts, university professors and scientists will discuss the issue of Water Management in Italy, using a scientific and constructive approach, in the evocative setting of the Museum of Science and Technology in Milan.
12.06.23 – Franco Parenti Theater / Bagni Misteriosi
The ocean, which has always been a protagonist in human culture, is celebrated in the final show of One Ocean Week Milano, together with the excellence of the Franco Parenti Theater in the wonderful setting of the Bagni Misteriosi in Milan. A show with Alessio Boni and Lucia Mascino that pays homage to the myth of the ocean as life, represented in every artistic form: from poetry to theatrical art from music to dance.
