The sea starts here
An educational project for Italian schools

The sea starts here” is One Ocean Foundation’s new educational program aimed at getting children involved in ocean conservancy by adding content to school curriculums to raise awareness among future generations on how safeguarding the sea is an issue for all of us, even those who live far from the coast.

The program comes at the perfect time: 2021 marks the start of the “Decade of Ocean Science for Sustainable Development (2021-2030)” promoted by the United Nations to mobilize the scientific community, governments, the private sector and the general public on the question of the health of our oceans.

“The sea starts here”  will raise awareness on the fact that the problems of the sea affect all of us, and they are linked to human activity on land. Resolving these issues is fundamental for the survival of the planet, because all ecosystems are inextricably interconnected through balances that must urgently be restored.

Schools applying to take part on ilmareiniziadaqui.org, can become “Ocean Friendly” schools and gain access to an archive of downloadable education material. Elementary schools can also ask for the educational kit entitled “The Adventure of Water”, which follows water’s journey from the mountains to the sea.

Over the coming year, along with its ambassadors and experts, One Ocean Foundation will visit schools selected on the basis of their commitment to the environment. The first institutes to take part were schools in Cortina d’Ampezzo, where the project “The sea starts here” was presented on February 20, 2021 during the Alpine World Ski Championships.
