RECO – Onboard Ecological Representative
A project for sailors, for a more responsible behaviour. The debut in occasion of the 151 Miglia regatta

RECO – Onboard Ecological Representative is One Ocean Foundation’s innovative project to raise the awareness of the nautical world on correct and ecologically responsible behaviours onboard, so as to fight marine pollution and bring more attention to the topic of plastic waste in the ocean.

The project, conceived by the professional sailor Alberto Leghissa, One Ocean Foundation’s Ambassador, is based upon the creation of a new crew member, the onboard ecological representative (RECO), accountable for the supervision of the decalogue and for the respect of its good practices, which apply the ideals of One Ocean Foundation’s ethical code, the Charta Smeralda, to life onboard.

In a context in which marine pollution and plastic in the oceans have exponentially increased, it is paramount that everyone feels responsible to carry out measures for the safeguard of the environment and of marine ecosystems. The Project RECO and the values underlined in the decalogue should not be uniquely limited to the nautical world, rather must be shared by any sport and recreational activity, encouraging to an enhanced environmental responsibility.

The proposal will debut at the 151 Miglia regatta on May 30th, 2021. The coordinators, who have always had great attention for sustainability and are close to our Foundation, have accepted the project with enthusiasm and have encouraged all crews engaged to define their own Ecological Representative.
The regatta will be attended by Alberto Leghissa together with another ambassador of One Ocean Foundation, Mauro Pelaschier, both participating aboard the maxi Anywave true.
