Starting exactly as planned, at 6:00 p.m. on April 24, 2024, with the gun fired by the frigate Margottini, the RAN 630 – Naval Academy Regatta immediately got underway. Just over a day later, precisely at 9:11 p.m. yesterday, April 25, the Class40 Vaquita skippered by Alessio Bernabò rounded the first waypoint of the race, the gate of Porto Cervo positioned by the Yacht Club Costa Smeralda. Vaquita thus wins the One Ocean Trophy. The RAN 630, the longest offshore regatta in the Mediterranean, continues with the fleet heading for the second passage, near the Faraglioni of Capri, before returning to Livorno. The finish line will be located in front of the Naval Academy.
Since its first edition in 2018, the RAN 630 has adhered to the ethical principles for the protection of the sea promoted by the One Ocean Foundation's Smeralda Charta, the Sustainability partner of the regatta. In the last edition, competitors were offered the initiative of the Ecological Onboard Manager (RECO), a new crew member responsible for good sustainability practices and marine protection, which this year has become an integral part of the FIV Regulations for offshore races.
