Pallacanestro Trieste and One Ocean Foundation are joining forces to create "Pallacanestro Trieste Goes Green," an initiative aimed at raising community awareness about the importance of environmental sustainability. Thanks to the collaboration with One Ocean Foundation, the team's new Sustainability Partner, the project aims to promote concrete actions for the protection of the planet.
On Friday, September 13th, the Foundation actively participated in the first activities of the program. The event "Eco Dunk - Slamming for Sustainability" engaged children aged 6 to 14 from the Famiglia e Salute Association of Trieste in a series of educational workshops, where participants could explore the wonders of the marine world and reflect on its protection.
The One Ocean Foundation team guided the youngsters on a journey of discovery through ocean creatures, from majestic cetaceans, by listening to their sounds, to the invisible inhabitants of the sea, such as plankton. Thanks to the use of a microscope, the children closely observed these microscopic organisms, learning about their shapes and vital roles in maintaining the balance of marine ecosystems.
Subsequently, the participants were involved in hands-on activities that made them active contributors to environmental conservation. Through educational games, the children “populated” a healthy sea with diverse species and witnessed the consequences of pollution by filling a symbolic whale with plastic.
These interactive workshops, held at the PalaTrieste, allowed for a fun and engaging understanding of the importance of protecting the seas and natural ecosystems.
“We are excited to collaborate with Pallacanestro Trieste on this project that combines sports and sustainability, a unique opportunity to raise community awareness about the importance of environmental protection, especially of marine ecosystems. One Ocean Foundation recognizes the crucial role that sports can play in promoting activities for the safeguard of our planet, utilizing its knowledge to inspire and mobilize people toward concrete actions. Initiatives like 'Pallacanestro Trieste Goes Green' are essential to educating new generations for a more conscious and responsible future. The link between sports and the environment can become a powerful driver of change, and we are honored to contribute to a project that stimulates collective commitment to the protection of the seas and natural ecosystems," said Riccardo Bonadeo, President of One Ocean Foundation.
This initiative will be followed by others throughout the months of September and October, culminating on October 20th, when the team will face Reggio Emilia in the "One Planet Only Game," a match entirely dedicated to the planet and sustainability. On this occasion, the stadium will host an exhibition of the works created by the children of the Famiglia e Salute Association involved in the Eco Dunk project. The winners of the contests launched throughout the project will be awarded during the halftime of the championship game.
