The workshop of the EU Horizon project EFFECTIVE was held on October 27 at the Centro Polivalente of the Municipality of Cabras.
The event was organised by One Ocean Foundation, in collaboration with the Marine Protected Area “Penisola del Sinis – Isola di Mal di Ventre” and the La Maddalena Archipelago National Park.
The aim of the workshop was to identify the main environmental pressures on Marine Protected Areas (MPAs), focusing on the 11 indicators of Good Environmental Status (GES) defined by the EU Marine Strategy Framework Directive. Translating these indicators at the local scale requires the direct knowledge and experience of those operating in the area.
The workshop opened and closed with greetings from the Mayor of Cabras, and saw the active participation of the Sardinian research community, including professors from the University of Sassari, researchers from the International Marine Center, and the CNR-IAS of Oristano, together with the valuable contribution of the Marine Protected Area “Penisola del Sinis – Isola di Mal di Ventre.”
This event represents an important first step in a broader participatory process that will continue to involve these stakeholders in the next phases of the project, with the goal of enhancing the management and effectiveness of Mediterranean Marine Protected Areas.
