On Friday, September 20, at the Teatro del Mare during the Genoa International Boat Show, One Ocean Foundation presented its Ocean Foresting campaign, supported by the Italian Sailing Federation (FIV).
Among the many projects of the Foundation, the Ocean Foresting campaign stands out for its focus on the importance of protecting marine forests. This effort is part of the broader international Blue Forest project, which is based on research, awareness-raising, and environmental restoration activities, beginning in the Mediterranean Sea with a focus on Posidonia oceanica, the most crucial marine plant for the health of the sea.
During the talk at the Boat Show, Gaia Peretti and Giulia Liguori of One Ocean Foundation spoke alongside Chiara Robello, a researcher and PhD candidate at the University of Genoa, whose doctoral research has been partially funded by the Foundation. Giulia Liguori, Sustainability Specialist, presented the Blue Forest project and the results achieved to date, along with the future goals to continue promoting the protection of marine forests internationally through the Ocean Foresting campaign. Dr. Robello explained the ecological importance of Posidonia oceanica and the innovative marine reforestation technique at the heart of her PhD, which is also being used in the Blue Forest project, developed with the scientific support of I.S.S.D. and researchers from the Seascape Ecology Lab (DiSTAV - University of Genoa).
At the end of the talk, it was announced, as a preview, that One Ocean Foundation will be participating in the Genoa Science Festival at the end of October. Over the course of four days, workshops on Posidonia oceanica will be held at a dedicated stand for kindergarten children and their families.
As the Sustainability Partner of the Italian Sailing Federation since 2021, the Foundation has engaged over 1,200 young people in more than 30 educational activities focused on marine conservation.
